A separate website myirishfamily is a personal family history website dedicated to the many individuals who are either direct descendants, or through marriage, connected back to Michael Heffernan, who farmed in the townland of Rathsillagh (Loraine), Kildare, Ireland in the late 1700s.
The site myIrishfamily.ie is built with The Next Generation software developed by Darrin Lythgoe and more information can be found on their website.
The reason for picking TNG is not entirely straightforward. The website kildarehistory.ie is built using Joomla open source software. In spite of exhaustive searching over the last number of years there is no satisfactory nor easy way of integrating a genealogy programme such as TNG with a Joomla site. Other CMS packages such as Wordpress do allow for easier integration. However, having working with Joomla for ten years and reaching a comfortable level of proficiency, I did not wish to switch to a different package such as Wordpress.
